1/31/26: Alexander Skarsgaard | Cardi B

ICE Meeting

  • Random Pete Davidson cameo.

  • Good laugh from Pete’s opening line about Greg Bovino not being fired for the horrible things he did, but for being filmed doing them. “The President no likey that.”

  • We get a tongue-in-cheek line with Mikey’s answer to Pete’s question being “wilding out”, which is a reference to Mikey being a cast member on Wild-N-Out in case some don’t know.

  • Pete is carrying this pretty well so far, but nothing entirely noteworthy.

  • It also feels like the pacing of this feels pretty off so far.

  • Obligatory character break from Pete, for seemingly no reason.

  • There are bits of dead air throughout this that are leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

  • Kenan winking after Pete saying not to destroy evidence was pretty funny.

  • JAJ’s “This could be wrong” questions throughout this are pretty funny.

  • Pete: Drop and give me 20!

  • JAJ: How about 3, with knees, girl style.

Rating: **½

Monologue

  • Wow, Alexander is tall.

  • Nice to see Alexander mention this episode being the 1000th episode.

  • Also nice to see Alexander mention Lenny and the band.

  • Alexander, to Lenny: Must be nice talking to the host huh?

  • Lenny: Depends on the host.

  • Alexander’s banter with some of the band members is really fun.

  • Alexander’s obviously fake saxophone playing is really funny.

Rating: ***½

Mom Confession

  • Here’s a VERY popular sketch from this season.

  • Ashley’s kids' reactions after Ashley’s belated realizations about Trump are pretty funny, but Ashley is going a bit too broad here for my likes.

  • Great reveal that it's Dad's birthday. “Greg, we’re gonna get to that.”

  • Alexander: Maybe we can talk about this at Red Robbin’s.

  • Ashley: If I hear a single “I told you so.” I’m gonna go see the Melania movie TONIGHT.

  • The kids' hesitance to say anything about Ashley’s confession is great. Jane huffing and puffing in particular is really funny.

  • Alexander: Leave your mother alone. Her laptop is old, she gets a different internet than you.

  • Pretty good as a whole, but I feel it’s really overrated.

Rating: ***½

The Winter Olympics

  • Jane hating the Luge is really funny.

  • Jane: This is a nightmare. I hate the thing I’m good at.

  • Jane’s deadpan is perfect for this, she is killing in this.

  • The fake clip of Jane screaming when going down the luge is really funny.

  • Alexander as Jane’s coach is great, and Jane’s hesitance to get on the Luge is really funny.

  • Overall, a great Jane showcase, and continues her steady rise on the show since December.

Rating: ****

Norwegian Movie

  • I really enjoyed the first installment of this, but yeahhh this didn’t need to become recurring.

  • Jane’s marker character is still funny though.

  • The gleefulness of Alexander and Chloe is fun, but just feels inferior to the first installment.

  • Alexander’s forgotten line being “kill myself” is pretty funny, in a dark way.

  • Mikey: Stench of a Family is NOT going to have a blooper reel.

  • Woah, a cameo from Alexander’s father, actor Stellan Skarsgaard.

  • I liked the ending with Stellan pulling a prank during the scene, but this was mostly subpar.

Rating: **½

Immigrant Dad Talk Show

  • Nice to see this return, as one of the few people who actually like this sketch.

  • Alexander’s frozenness as the neighbor from Finland is really funny (his punishment for his son was really funny), and Marcello's reactions are a good utilization of his underrated straight man skills.

  • I liked Marcello’s sarcastic line to Mikey’s “Melt the ICE” shirt “That is gonna fix everything”.

  • Good lord, they're repeating the EXACT SAME BIT, with Andrew as Mikey’s son entering, and kissing Mikey on the lips. This is my one big issue with a recurring sketch I generally don’t mind. Why does the writer(s) of this sketch choose to bring THIS bit back with every installment of this sketch?

  • Alexander’s story about him and his father’s kneecaps accidentally touching in a sauna is pretty funny “He said to me, tell no one of this!”, and we get another appearance from Stellan! “I told you tell no one of this!”

  • Hey, Cardi B makes an appearance as Marcello’s wife!

  • Cardi B is a blast here, and her complaining to Marcello about bringing white people to the house is really funny.

Rating: *** (The Mikey & Andrew bit brought his down half a star)

The Viking Raid

  • Alexander as a Viking feeling left out, and this taking a melodramatic turn is pretty funny.

  • There’s not really anything to quote here, but I’m enjoying this. Alexander’s stories about feeling left out are pretty funny.

  • The teenager-style banter from the Vikings is pretty funny.

  • Chloe: Is my face red?

  • Alexander: Yes, you're covered in blood.

Rating: ***

Weekend Update

  • Colin, about Dry January ending: Let’s hope it’s a Wet Ass February.

  • Che, about Kristi Noem: She’ll open fire even if you're a good boy.

  • Colin, about Melania documentary: It’s called “Wicked: For Real”.

  • Nice to see a different type of Update piece, with Sarah outside of Rockefeller Center.

  • Sarah: Conditions are very, very cold. Now back to you Colin!

  • Sarah: The weather is how you like your women, 20 but it feels like 15!

  • Sarah describing her Crab getting cooked into a “seafood boil” is pretty funny, and the cut to Colin with a knife and fork is really funny.

  • Hey, a Jack McBrayer cameo!

  • I don’t know if Two People Who Just Hooked Up will work as a recurring Update piece.

  • Andrew and Ashley’s chemistry is still great here, just like the first time.

  • Ashley and Andrew using the Super Bowl teams in place for themselves is still pretty funny.

  • Colin: Is Jason a player?

  • Ashley: Heh, you could say that.

  • Andrew seems to be breaking here. I know the characters are supposed to be giddy but he seems especially giggly.

  • Andrew: Maybe the Patriots get tired, and ask the Seahawks to play themselves for a while…

  • Andrew thinking the “Super Bowl” was just “chill” is pretty funny.

  • This was still solid, thankfully, but I would be fine with this never returning.

Rating: ***½

Play Date

  • Alexander in drag as a little girl is honestly a very funny sight.

  • Alexander yelling at Sarah out of nowhere was really funny.

  • Alexander’s fake braces seem to be coming off, but he’s still carrying on like a pro.

  • Alexander’s “I Love Pizza” dance was really funny.

  • Jane telling Chloe “Stop asking her if she knows stuff” was HILARIOUS. Another great moment with Jane in this episode.

  • Alexander throwing Chloe’s phone out the window was really funny.

  • OH MY GOD at Alexander throwing Sarah out the window, the continued chaos in this is great.

  • Alexander, to Sarah: Oh you just opened the GATES OF HELL!!!

  • Alexander: I’m sorry I keep throwing Marie.

  • Jane, about Sarah: She’s mean and her mom sleeps around.

Rating: ****

Tarzan

  • Alexander as Tarzan questioning Sarah as Jane’s decision to live with him is okay, but not anything great so far.

  • Kenan’s walk-on didn’t work for me.

  • Something about the pacing of this isn’t working.

  • Don’t know how to feel about the meta line about Sarah’s poor British accent.

  • Pretty dumb ending, with Jane falling out of the tree house.

Rating: **½

Funny Boyfriend

  • Second sketch in a row, with Alexander and Sarah as a couple.

  • Alexander’s very obvious reading of a punchline is pretty funny.

  • Alexander standing up, and Cards Against Humanity cards falling out of his puffer jacket is really funny.

  • I love the reveal that Alexander gets his jokes from Cards Against Humanity cards.

  • Everyone in this sketch is doing great, and their serious treatment of the reveal is really funny.

  • All of the cards that are being read are very accurate representations of how Cards Against Humanity cards typically are.

  • The somber monologue from Alexander is really funny.

  • A great way to end the show.

Rating: ****

Thoughts

A decent episode. There were some strong highs, and most of the show stayed in the “fairly solid to average” range. It also helps that despite some subpar sketches, nothing fully flopped.. Alexander Skarsgaard was the first host in a LOOOOONG while that was actually utilized really well. He was great, and had lots of chances to shine (Play Date, and Funny Boyfriend in particular were great showcases for him).
